Surgical Orthodontics
Surgical orthodontics, or orthognathic surgery, corrects jaw misalignment and enhances facial appearance. This procedure involves repositioning the jaw, which also affects teeth alignment. Dr. T.C. Hardy often combines braces with surgical orthodontics to achieve optimal results.

You may be a candidate for surgical orthodontics if you struggle with chewing, breathing, or speaking due to a misaligned bite, or if you have concerns about your facial appearance. This treatment is typically reserved for adults or teenagers whose jaw growth has finished, usually around age 18 for boys and 16 for girls.
Surgical orthodontics involves precisely adjusting the position of your upper and/or lower jaw. The surgeon can move the upper jaw backward, forward, up, or down, and the lower jaw forward or backward. This procedure is often combined with orthodontic treatment for optimal results. To determine the best approach for you, schedule a consultation with Dr. Hardy.
After surgery, it’s essential to rest for at least two weeks, but follow your oral surgeon’s specific guidelines. A follow-up appointment is recommended about a month post-surgery. Typically, braces are worn for an additional 6 to 12 months following surgery to refine your bite. Dr. Hardy will monitor your progress with regular check-ups.
