TAD Orthodontics

Temporary Anchorage Devices

Temporary Anchorage Devices or TADS, are used in orthodontic cases where traditional braces alone are insufficient. These titanium, screw-like devices shift teeth into a straighter position, either complementing braces or serving as an alternative to headgear. TADs lead to more efficient treatments.

How are TADs placed?

Dr. T.C. Hardy will first evaluate your teeth at Taft Hill Orthodontics to determine if TADs are necessary for your treatment. Next, your gum tissue and jaw area will be numbed before inserting the TADs into your jawbone. You should become accustomed to the device within a day or two. Finally, Dr. Hardy will remove the TADs once your orthodontic treatment is complete or when they are no longer needed for aligning your teeth.

How can I make TADs more comfortable?

We advise you to seek further recommendations from a member of our experienced orthodontic team or schedule a follow-up appointment with Dr. Hardy if discomfort persists.

How do I clean my TADs?

Continue your regular oral hygiene routine of brushing and flossing. Brush your teeth up to three times a day and use an antimicrobial mouthwash at least twice daily.
